🐶 Are Engineers Good At Math
Every part of the electrical engineering spectrum has math, and it's truly amazing to see how math presents itself in real problems. I use math every day when solving problems at work. Whether it's basic algebra, systems of equations, or calculus. It's also important to have a great intuition on the physics.
Categorically no. Math makes good software engineers great, but no amount of math will make up for not having software engineering fundamentals, which you will typically learn in a modern non-theory CS undergrad program (which most colleges have). 21 votes, 79 comments. 2.3M subscribers in the math community.
Jun 13, 2018 · You’re making some assumptions about things that are mostly not accurate. First of all, it takes several years for a junior data scientist to reach senior levels. 5 to 8 years in a reasonably sized business with a clear hierarchy (although possibly faster in a smaller business with fewer levels, etc). 5 to 8 years is a lot of time to “backfill” any math knowledge that you might have missed.

Most of your math calculations will mostly require high school level math with some trigonometry. The thing that you have to understand is that university is preparing you to be an engineer. Despite what you want to get into after graduation, you still need a reasonable background in limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite
Jul 27, 2021 · Try learning to code first, understanding key data science concepts, trying out fun projects, then the math element will make more sense in context. As this Stanford article explains, “Professor Jo Boaler says students learn math best when they work on problems they enjoy, rather than exercises and drills they fear.”.
Despite going to my first two math classes often (integral and series calc) and visiting office hours and completing all of my work, I would get failing grades on tests. In my other 3 classes - 2x multivariable calculus and differential equations - I found the key. You have to study a lot if you’re not good at math.
Most engineers are not math geniuses just good at practicing, leave the math genius to the math majors. Thanks for taking the time to reply, helps a ton. You don't have to be exceptionally good at anything just able to realize when you need to put work into certain areas. I’m definitely going to work hard!
